Category: Data fusionGiven the complexity of VPH models, the integration of data from multiple sources and multiple subjects is crucial to obtain convincing results. For instance, tackling areas such as “patient-specific customisation of models” or “data fitting and parameter estimation within models” will undoubtedly rely on multiple data sources that cannot be integrated without the use of appropriate fusion algorithms. This category thus includes tools for the fusion of datasets from: different data sources, different subjects, different spatial resolutions, different temporal resolutions, and different physiological states. Data fusion requirements for the VPH projects can be met with several alternative approaches, primarily differentiated by the range of spatial scales involved. Where data at similar scales is fused, this is termed horizontal fusion. Another approach, needed for data fusion across a wider range of spatial scales – vertical fusion – requires the use of models; the sections Tools - Modelling Tools and Methods - Markup and Modelling Languages are also relevant for this.
